'Cuttin' a Rug' With a Garden View

Dennis and Larena Hebert are avid gardeners who love to dance and entertain guests. Their existing kitchen was only big enough to prepare a meal and had little connection to their garden. Not to mention there was no room to "cut a rug." The proposed addition, completed August 2011 is now the home's social hub, where it connects equally to both interior and exterior spaces. The design intent was to create a space that would tie into the existing house, yet be embellished with features that communicate a special sense of place. Mixing a traditional aesthetic with eclectic flare were critical to the design considerations. Existing furnishings, finishes, and decorations greatly informed the interior design, while a level of formal garden rigor informed the exterior scheme.
