Double Duty Home Office and Art Studio.
Michael and Gabriella wanted a space to work from home before their daughter was born. Michael created a plan that would serve two goals: create voluminous light-filled spaces to use as a home office and art studio, while making sure the same spaces could transition into living space in the future. The original 726 sf home had two bedrooms and one bathroom. A welcome 574 sf addition increased the home to 1300 sf with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a great room. The addition fully integrated the existing carport materials into the final design (which includes a bonus "man cave" in the backyard!) with no wasted materials. Designing the office as a future bedroom and the art studio as a future great room added value and equity to the property. Function, site orientation and topography, and architectural features of the existing house informed the design process. All features of the addition are environmentally responsible including the city approved vegetated storm water swale and "man-cave" green roof.
