Modern-Rustic River House

Serenely located on the banks of the McKenzie River, this Modern-Rustic Home underwent a complete interior renovation to the main house and the cottage/garage. The original interior featured timber framed ceilings in the living areas, but flat ceilings throughout the rest of the rooms. To aesthetically connect these spaces, the ceiling vault needed to be expanded, yet look and feel as though it was original. Lines of sight throughout the house to the river and deck area were amplified by this and other changes, helping the rooms to visually merge into a larger space when select doors are open. In this way the home can gracefully facilitate large social gatherings. A unique feature to the home is a small open shower in a mud room dedicated exclusively to canine companions, making this home extremely pet friendly while retaining cleanliness and elegance inside. Selection of finish materials were informed by the site and its history, keeping a natural look while providing a sleek polish with modern touches. Materials include warm brick, rich shades of wood, and white/neutral tones for counters and paint, with several bright blue accents emphasizing the river view. Improvements were also made to the existing exterior, including new doors, windows, and paint, all in keeping with the original Forrest Service structure aesthetic found along the river. The final product is a home full of tranquility and comfort, with ample space to enjoy nature and social gatherings.
